Lyrics

Granite peaks loom high above,
reaching for the sky
Meadows spill their bounty
as their arms stretch open wide
And as I lay my head down,
another day is done
Through the darkness comes a sound, the river runs

She pumps through twisted canyons,
rolls round tangled knots
Her arteries churn teemingly
right through the splintered rocks
As trees bow down to chainsaws
fertile land succumbs
She plunges on undeterred,
the river runs

The river runs
Never knowing where she’s going
Her journey ever flowing,
deep inside her veins
The river runs
Ever steady, ever changing
The river runs

While we learned to roll on wheels and tamed the mighty flame
Built pyramids to heaven and
cultivated grain
We cure with penicillin
kill with atom bombs
And when the dust returns to dust, the river runs

CHORUS

I run away from sorrow,
I run away from pain
I run away from fear and shame
I Run away from greatness,
I run from love, and dreams
The river runs because she’s free…

The river runs
Never knowing where she’s going
Her journey ever flowing,
deep inside her veins
The river runs
Ever steady, ever changing
The river runs
